The Moose are a Fraternal and Service organization, consisting of
men and women. We are dedicated to our mission of bettering the
lives and communities, providing family recreation at a modest cost.
In addition, we have a Member's Lounge, a Banquet Hall, and a Games
Room. In our Games room, we have dart boards, a pool table, and
a shuffleboard table. Cribbage boards, cards, and "board games"
(Rumoli, Yahtzee, Scrabble, etc) are also avaliable for your leisure
enjoyment.
As far as the International Loyal Order of Moose, the history
goes back to 1906. The first "Director General" of Moose
International was Mr. James Davis, who was active in the labor
movement, as well as his compassion for others. He showed strong
leadership, and a strong desire to establish programs vital to
his fellow man. The Fraternity grew from just a few hundred members
in 1907, to over 750,000 at the time of Mr. Davis' death in 1947.
The vision of Mr. Davis was to establish a "Child City",
where the children of deceased Moose members could find shelter
and refuge. In 1910, a school for sons and daughters was presented
at a Maryland Convention, and was given unanimous approval by
the delegates. James J. Davis felt that children must be educated,
so when they graduate, they can be self supporting. The fulfillment
of this project became a reality on July 27, 1913, under a rented
circus tent. With his foresight, Mooseheart grew from a small
cornfield to a modern "City of Children", nestling as
it does in the beautiful Fox River Valley of Northern Illinois.
Mooseheart is the crowning achievement of Mr. Davis, and the many
stalwart men and women who have since dedicated themselves to
the Loyal Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose.
The "M" in Moose stands for "more". More
sporting and family opportunities and interests in which to participate,
and to share with others. To put it another way, wherever you
find fun, you'll find the Moose. "Fun" warms the heart,
and links our lives.
There are two sides to the Moose; the receiving and the giving.
While the "receiving" is good, the "giving"
is even better! Throughout its long, honored history, the Moose
Fraternity has always focused on "giving something back".
It is altogether proper that you should know that service is an
important part of this story. Of course, by this, we mean the
service of members giving their time and effort to make their
communities better places in which to live.
Mooseheart. Call it love... call it security...
call it a heartwarming opportunity to turn tragedies into triumphs.
Call it an opportunity to give back, to stand together, and make
a change for the better of us all. Whatever you call it, Mooseheart
is one of the most enduring contributions this Fraternity makes
to society, and the Loyal Order of Moose #772 is proud to represent
in the Edmonton community.
