The Loyal Order of Moose #772 recieved its Charter from Moose
International on September 30, 1911. In 2007, we will be celebrating 96
years of Community Service in Edmonton!
Our First location was in a building where the
Shaw Convention Centre now stands. From there, we moved to a location
just off Japser Avenue and 106 Street. We were commonly known,
at the time, as the Moose Temple, where, on weekends, you could
always go and enjoy a dance. On the main floor of this building
were a dance hall and banquet room. The member's lounge was located
in the basement, and on the upper level, you would find meeting
& recreation rooms.
In 1972, our membership was growing rapidly.
The Members decided, at that time, to purchase property and build
our own Moose Lodge. The property purchased was on 142 Street
and 146 Avenue, which, at the time, was in the County of Strathcona.
We built a small facility, and in 1975, with a continuing rapid
increase in membership, we had to built an addition to the Lodge
building. At one time, our membership was over 1200 people! At
this location, we included horseshoe pits, slo-pitch diamonds,
and, of course, picnic and camping areas, in addition to our regular
social activities.
In 2002, with membership dropping drastically,
the membership once again decided to sell the property, and move
to a smaller, more manageable facility. In the fall of 2004, we
were able to aquire a lease with Canada Lands, for property at
10811 - 146 Avenue. For those who don't wuite know the newer,
developing areas of the City of Edmonton, this building is located
on what used to be the Edmonton Griesbach Military Base, and was,
in fact, the old Non-Commissioned Officer's Mess. You could say
that this property has alot of history.
The newest location has a unique country-style
setting, with a fenced yard, and a beautiful tree barrier running
parallel to the fence. The outside yard is fairly large, with
such features as horseshoe pits, bar-b-que and picnic facilities,
and a gorgeous fire pit. There's a fully screened patio area for those who like the outdoors,
but don't care so much for the mosquitoes and other insects. Above
that, there's still plenty of room for Bocce Ball & Croquet,
Lawn Darts, and so many other activities!
Inside of the building you will find our Member's
Lounge, Games Room, Banquet Hall, and Conference
Rooms. The interior has been renovated since we have taken over
the property, as when we moved in, the building had been in neglect.
Adding wood highlights, and a cheerful, warming colors, we feel
we have created a warming, welcoming enviroment.
Cribbage, as well
as other card games, are often in progress within the Member's
Lounge. The Member's Lounge also sports a large-screen television,
and the programs are always open for suggestion. Many a time,
you'll find our members just relaxing, telling stories, and tuning
in to a good sports show, or one of their favorite television
shows.
Our Games room sports 8 dart boards, a pool table,
and a shuffleboard table. Its not uncommon to find members involved
in a Dart Jitney, or playing a game of 8-ball. There is plenty
of room inside the Games Room for participants, and those who
would just rather spectate.
Our Banquet Hall is something to be seen! Highlighted
with oak features, it is the pride and joy of the Moose Lodge.
A large dance floor, and a seperate bar for those special functions
really make this Banquet Hall something worth looking into. Currently,
the Loyal Order of Moose #772 utilize this Banquet Hall for our
Tuesday Night Classic Country Dancing and our Thursday Night Senior's
Dances, as well as other special events that require the space,
but it is also avaliable for private bookings. See "Banquet
Hall Rentals" for more information on this.
In addition to our locations and facilities,
the Loyal Order of Moose #772 has been highly active in the Edmonton
Community. Over the years, we have donated over one million dollars
to the community. In 1988, the Edmonton Moose Lodge donated a
motor home with Dialysis Equipment to the Kidney Foundation. In
addition to this, we have donated monies to Boy Scouts, Girl Guides,
Canadian Cancer Foundation, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation,
as well as scholarships for College and University Ecucation.
And that's just a sampling of our donations!
